Phase 1 This is the WHY – why we are examining learning in our school End Result: a definition of the characteristics of 21C Learners Phase 3 This is the HOW - how are we going to develop programmes that meet the needs of 21C Learners and reflect the OPS Core Values? This is where the Inquiry process comes in End Result: a Learning Map/Framework that is a plan of our approach to student learning. Phase 2 This is the WHAT – what do we want our learner to have in their head and their heart? What do we value as important in terms of Values, Skills and Knowledge? End Result: 8-10 Core Values – statements that define what student learning is all about at our school. This is what OPS unique. These will be reflected in our Charter. Student Learning

Examples of Core Values School 1 At X school we believe that responsibility, independence, initiative, common sense and perseverance are essential life skills School 2 XYZ school values the fostering of creativity in its students School 3 At B school we value knowledge - Knowledge through Curriculum - About myself - About my community - About my country - About my world and beyond

From this weeks newsletter BOARD OF TRUSTEES NEWS …… a major project for us for this year is to review our schools charter document that which includes the schools’ purpose, vision, values, and strategic plan A charter articulates what our school is all about – what does it actually say about what we value as important in terms of student learning?

All good stuff in the charter but…, What do we value as important in terms of student learning? Can we see that in our charter? Adding Core Values will define what we believe is important in terms of student learning Clearly defined Core Values will allow students parents, staff and the wider community to know what learning is based on at OPS
