7 Guided Reading 1.Cuban revolutionary who planned and carried out a rebellion in 1895 to free Cuba from Spanish control. Died in battle. Eastern Cuba became independent in 1895. Hoped that the destruction of American property would lead to American intervention in the war. 2.The New York Journal and the New York World engaged in yellow journalism to sell more papers.
