Fossil Fuels By Rachel Scott & Lizzie Hunter
2
What are fossil fuels? Fossil fuels are things like coal, petroleum, oil and natural gases. All fossil fuels use produce energy in just about the same way.
3
Petroleum Petroleum is used for manufacturing medicines and plastics. Another name for Petroleum is ‘Crude oil.’ Petroleum is the same as coal they are both organic materials.
4
Coal Coal evolved from prehistoric plants that have decomposed over the years. The hydrogen had eroded and a material named Coal was left by the end of the process. In coal the higher the carbon the better it burns. Peat is one of the states of coal and is used the same way as coal.
5
Natural Gases Natural gases are almost always found in the remains of Petroleum. Europe and parts of Africa have a the biggest natural gas deposits in the world. Compared to coal and Petroleum, Natural gases are mostly the best at burning cleanly.
6
Advantages & Disadvantages If we didn’t have them we wouldn’t have the electric advantages we have today. 90% of our electricity is powered by Fossil Fuels. Some will burn more cleanly than others. A very bad disadvantage is that fossil fuels cause climate change and global warming.
