What is the Meriam Report?
The Meriam Report was a survey on Indian Affairs in the United States. Lewis Meriam was the technical director of the survey team that compiled information regarding the conditions of American Indians. The report was a narrative and statistical criticism of the ineffectiveness of the Dawes Act, as well as conditions on reservations and in Boarding Schools.

FINDINGS The Federal Government was failing miserably at it’s goal of protecting Native American’s, their homelands, and their resources. The report formed the basis for the Indian Reorganization Act of 1934.
