Thesis: The best tv show is Doctor Who because it teaches tolerance and love, The Doctor saves people, and the dialogue is humorous.
4
Body Paragraphs Matches up to the three proofs of your thesis Sentence 1: Topic Sentence Next several sentences: textual evidence (TE) and explanation Last sentence: Transition to next paragraph
5

Collins uses metaphors to compare how his students are such a large part of his life that they are like an entire town. Collins uses similes to continue to illustrate how much of a large part of his life is dedicated to his students and teaching.
7
Topic Sentences - 2 Thesis: English, social studies, and fine arts classes are the most ideal subjects for multicultural education, but other subjects can incorporate multicultural aspects as well.
8
Topic Sentences - 2 The English language arts classroom is perhaps the easiest subject to include multicultural information in. Social studies classrooms are also easily multicultural. All cultures produce art, music, and dance, making them more than suitable for multicultural education.
9
Topic Sentences - 3 In Titus Andronicus, Lavinia and Bassianus have a deep-rooted commitment to each other that defines their relationship. In The Taming of the Shrew, Kate and Petruccio’s love for each other takes longer to form due to the nature of the start of their relationship, Kate’s “shrewishness”, and Petruccio’s stubbornness. In Romeo and Juliet, Romeo and Juliet’s relationship does not get to fully blossom due to its short life, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have love.
10
TE and Explanation TE is direct quotes from another source, such as a story or research Explanation further explains your TE based on your interpretation and prior knowledge MUST HAVE BOTH!
11
TE and Explanation - 1 There are two different ways to go about it: “through direct instruction about language and literature, and through lessons that develop language skills- thinking, listening, speaking, reading, and writing” (Tiedt 168). Direct instruction includes having students reading and discussing novels, poems, short stories, and speeches written by authors of a different culture. For instance, instead of having students read the Euro-American focused The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton as a unit on growing up, students could read the Mexican-American novel Bless Me, Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya. Both stories revolve around the main character learning how to cope with growing up. Coming of age stories are excellent multicultural literature because teenagers of all cultures, ethnicities, and countries experience growing up.
12
For every instance of TE, you need at least one sentence of explanation
13
Transition Last sentence of the paragraphs Wraps up the paragraph and paves the way for the next paragraph
14
Transition - 1 Closely connected to social studies are the subjects within the fine arts, also ripe with multicultural opportunities. The overall essay is talking about multicultural opportunities in teaching. The current paragraph is about multicultural opportunities in social studies classes. The next paragraph will talk about multicultural opportunities in fine arts classes.
15
Transition - 2 The first believers of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Diego, Bishop Zumárraga, and his household, may have been the first supporters, but they certainly were not the last. What is the essay, overall, about? What was the paragraph about? Predict what the next paragraph will be about.
16
Transition - 3 Write a transition: Current paragraph about multiculturalism in English classes Next paragraph about multiculturalism in social studies classes
17
Write 3 Topic Sentences Based on This Thesis: Prompt: Evaluate Thalia Bardell’s “Home Court”. Thesis: Bardell’s “Home Court” is a good creative nonfiction text because it made me think about my home- away-from-home, I could identify with her relationship with her brother, and her imagery left me speechless.
