Valence Electrons The number of electrons in the atom’s outer shell. This affects how reactive an atom is. This is indicated for each column/group by the number in front of the letter above

Oxidation Numbers These numbers are used to determine chemical formula of compounds. Number is between 1 – 4 Positive number means Group members can GIVE an electron. Negative number means Group members can TAKE/STEAL an electron
