English STAAR Testing Blueprint 63 Multiple Choice Items (including Field Test Questions) 35 for READING, based on 4 selections – 7 questions are Field Test Questions 28 for WRITING, half Revising / half Editing – 6 questions are Field Test Questions 3 Short Answer Responses (This is Expository-style writing.) Will be based on the READING selections from above One of the SA responses will be a field test Essays (including Field Test Prompts) Each student will write 2 essays of the same style. One will be a field test. English 1 writes EXPOSITORY. English 2 writes PURSUASIVE. 5 Hour Testing Window

English STAAR Scoring Blueprint 50 Multiple Choice Items, scored at 1 point each. Short Answer Questions, scored on a scale of 0 to 3. This score is then tripled. Essay, scored by two readers on a scale of 0 to 4, for a maximum possible score of 8. This score is then doubled. Maximum MC total: 50 Maximum SA total: 18 Maximum Essay total: 16 TOTAL POSSIBLE POINTS: 84 Estimated Passing Score for 2014: 51 out of 84

Each composition scored according to TEA rubric on scale of 0 – 4. TEA Expository Writing Scoring Rubric STAAR Writing compositions are scored using a rubric from that gives a holistic score of 1 to 4 points. The rubric is divided into 3 categories: Organization/Progression Development of Ideas Use of Language/Conventions Highlight the changes in expectations across the rubric from score 1 to score 4. Example: Organizing structure: Score 1 – inappropriate Score 2 – evident but not always appropriate Score 3 – for the most part appropriate Score 4 – clearly appropriate
