The role of weaponry has evolved across many centuries. The role of weaponry has changed the outcomes of major battles throughout world history. This is especially the case in Egyptian history. The adaptation and innovation of novel military hardware has shaped the political geography in Egypt. This Webquest will illustrate the evolution of weaponry from simplistic melee and projectile weapons to intricate technologically driven missile systems. The student will research the impact of weapons that changed the northern African region, their legacy and the culture that wielded them. Furthermore, the student will be able to conceptualize the ways that new weapons changed war strategies and the life of soldiers throughout recorded time. The student will be required to search internet sources and pick out specific benchmark weapons that changed the way war was waged in a significant way. When conducting your research, consider these questions: How did this weapon give a specific society a tactical advantage? What was the political, economic and social outcome of the introduction of this weapon? What were some of the significant battles or instances in which this weapon was utilized? How was this weapon unique for it’s time and place? How did the introduction of this weapon change the way soldiers conducted war? IntroductionTaskProcessEvaluationConclusionCredits

You will now conduct research over historical Egyptian weapons. The first part of the process is to chronologically organize your research. You will choose to analyze the impact of one weapon from three time periods. Time Period 1: Pre-History – 1 CE Time Period 2: 1 CE – 1500 CE Time Period 3: 1500 CE - Present After you have chosen which weapons you wish to analyze in detail, be prepared to identify the significance of each weapon in these categories: Tactical Impact, Political Impact and Social Impact You will fill in your research on the graph on the next slide. You will be graded on the proper completion of the graph. The student will use the following resources to find information on specific weaponry used throughout history: http://www.reshafim.org.il/ad/egypt/weapons/index.htmlhttp://www.reshafim.org.il/ad/egypt/weapons/index.html - Ancient history website useful for recognizing early Egyptian weapons, armor and tools. http://www.weapons-universe.com/Swords/Ancient_Egyptian_Weapons.shtmlhttp://www.weapons-universe.com/Swords/Ancient_Egyptian_Weapons.shtml - Egyptian weapons used in battle, chariots and other means of war. http://www.ancientmilitary.com/ancient-egypt-military.htmhttp://www.ancientmilitary.com/ancient-egypt-military.htm - Ancient/Modern - The overall evolution of military technology in Northern Africa. You have now researched three very impactful weapons throughout history. Please consider the following ideas as we conclude our Webquest. Consider the ethical implications of the advancement of weapon technologies. What type of limits did Egyptians face when producing new weapons technologies? Should there be limits to the type and scale of modern weaponry? Should weapons be regulated? How does the government protect our right to own, produce and utilize weapons? Does the evolution of weaponry produce grand problems or is the innovation of weapons a good thing? What do you predict will be the future of weapon technology?
