Romans 5:6 For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.

The First Coming His birth was all about His death! Then He said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?” Luke 24:25-26

Hebrews 9:27-28 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.

Comparing the Covenants

Theme of Hebrews By persevering faith, we can have partnership with God’s King-Priest Son!

Outline Since the sacrifice of Christ was once for all: 1.All believers are sanctified forever - 10:1-10 2.All believers are perfected forever - 10:11-14 3.No other sacrifice is needed - 10:15-18

Hebrews 10:1-2 For the law, having a shadow of the good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with these same sacrifices, which they offer continually year by year, make those who approach perfect. For then would they not have ceased to be offered?

Hebrews 10:2b-3 For the worshipers, once purified, would have had no more consciousness of sins. But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins.

Hebrews 10:1-4 Just like a mirror can’t remove dirt, the OT system only showed the inadequacy of the people and reminded them of their sin and guilt.

Hebrews 10:5 Therefore, when He came into the world, He said: “Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, But a body You have prepared for Me.

Hebrews 10:6-7 In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin You had no pleasure. Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come— In the volume of the book it is written of Me— To do Your will, O God.’”

Hebrews 10:5-7 Jesus came to do what God really wanted; to take away sin permanently and completely.

Hebrews 10:8-9 Previously saying, “Sacrifice and offering, burnt offerings, and offerings for sin You did not desire, nor had pleasure in them” (which are offered according to the law), then He said, “Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God.” He takes away the first that He may establish the second.

Hebrews 10:8-9 The OT sacrifices were taken away to do God’s will and completely deal with sin.

Hebrews 10:10 “Have been sanctified” BelieveResult = “set apart (to God)” An action with abiding results

Hebrews 10:10 “Once for all” Unlike OT sacrifices, this need never be repeated! I am forever set apart to God, in His family!

Outline Since the sacrifice of Christ was once for all: 1.All believers are sanctified forever - 10:1-10 2.All believers are perfected forever - 10:11-14 3.No other sacrifice is needed - 10:15-18

Hebrews 10:11-13 And every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool.

Notice the contrast Daily Repeatedly The same sacrifices One sacrifice forever! Merry Christmas!

Hebrews 10:11-13 What is Jesus doing now? Among other things, He’s waiting for His salvation! (9:28!!)

Hebrews 10:14 The “one offering” of Jesus forever perfects “the sanctified” (v. 10)!!! All believers are forever perfect worshippers!

Hebrews 10:14 Perseverance in the faith comes from assurance, assurance does not come from perseverance! 2 Peter 1:9

One Problem with the Concept “Never believed…”

Outline Since the sacrifice of Christ was once for all: 1.All believers are sanctified forever - 10:1-10 2.All believers are perfected forever - 10:11-14 3.No other sacrifice is needed - 10:15-18

Hebrews 10:15-16 But the Holy Spirit also witnesses to us; for after He had said before, “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the L ORD : I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them,”

Hebrews 10:17-18 then He adds, “Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” Now where there is remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin.

Hebrews 10:15-18 Those of us blessed by the New Covenant (all believers) never again need another sacrifice! Those same OT sacrifices repeated daily are done; there is no need for an offering for sin!
