Google Earth How does it work? Google Earth combines satellite imagery, maps and the power of Google Search to put the world's geographic information at your fingertips. View exotic locales like Maui and Paris as well as points of interest such as local restaurants, hospitals, schools, and more. http://earth.google.com/

GPS Launch Google Earth and Create a Folder Launch Google Earth Add > Folder Name your folder e.g., Chillicothe Training/location of trip

GPS Fly To a Destination Select the Fly To tab Enter a destination e.g., 8 th Street and Lehigh Avenue, Philadelphia, PA

Insert a Placemark Add > Placemark (or click on the pushpin icon) Name the placemark – e.g., Chillicothe High School Change the Style and Color Choose a different icon type (click on the placemark icon to the right of Name) While the placemark icon is blinking, you can move it around on the screen

Enter Text into Your Placemark Right Click on the placemark icon > Select Properties In the Description box, type your text – e.g., Welcome! Today we are taking a field trip….. Click OK Now, when you click on the placemark icon your text will appear

Add Video Content to Your Placemark Select a video Go to Video Segments Right click on the Play Button (green icon) next to your segment Select “Copy Shortcut”

Create an Image Overlay Go to unitedstreaming and search for images Find an image and click Preview Copy the URL of the image

Create an Image Overlay Add > Image Overlay Give the overlay a name Paste the link (i.e., the URL from your unitedstreaming image) Click OK Resize and reposition the image using the light green anchors

Narrate Your Field Trips Springdoo allows you to create talking emails – Set up a FREE account – Record a message – Paste the link (i.e., URL) into the description box of your Google Earth placemark www.springdoo.com

Organize and Save Make sure everything (i.e., placemarks, image overlays, etc.) is in your folder The order (top-down) is important. First one shows first (e.g., Julia de Burgos Bilingual Middle School goes first) Play the tour Select the folder (e.g., Valley Forge Field Trip) > Save > Save Places As > Select Destination
