Kindergarten Weekly News February 5, 2016 Language Arts This week we began Week 1 of Unit 5. The Week 1 Focus Question was: What are everyday family celebrations? We have been working on summarizing a story and we will be working on writing out our daily message too. Throughout the week we continued to practice phoneme segmenting and blending. Students were asked to listen to separate sounds (/s/ /e/ /t/). Then they were asked how many sounds they heard (three), and after that they blended the sounds to make the word (set). We did this with multiple three letter words, like bug, tag, top, and tin. You can play this segmenting and blending game with your kiddo as review! Report Cards Report cards will come home next Thursday in the purple folders. Please be sure to read the directions stapled on the front cover letting you know what to keep and what to send back to school. Please return all folders by Wednesday, February 17 th. Please be sure to go over with your child his/her strengths and areas they need to work on. Thank You! SIGHT WORDS Please be sure to review the new set of cards that went home this week. Our new words for this unit are…My His Puts. Please continue to practice the sight words overall. New charts will go home in the next two weeks or so. Groundhog Day! Well…it is official…the Groundhog did not see his shadow! Legend says that means an early spring! Specials Please refer to the February calendar that was sent home last week. Specials will be giving your kiddo a grade so please be sure that your kiddo is wearing sneakers on gym day because that will be part of his/her report card score. If you are unsure of the day, please refer to the parkland website. Math This week we have continued our new unit all about numbers from 11-19.
