Graphing Parabolas Quadratic Function: y = ax² + bx + c To find the vertex (x, y), first use the axis of symmetry formula. Axis of symmetry: After you find x, plug your x-value back into the quadratic function to find y. The y-intercept is (0,c) just like in a linear equation. To determine if your parabola opens up or down, look at your a value. +a = up, -a= down
