Petroleum was discovered south of Tunisia in 1960. Natural Gas is also produced.

Electrical products, building materials and rubber products are made in Tunisia. There are also 60 automotive assembly plants.

Tunisia has may factories including ones that make clothing, shoes, and leather goods.

Many food items are produced in Tunisia including fish, fruit, vegetables, flour, olive oil, salt, refined sugar, canned fruits and vegetables.

Local markets called Souks sell items to tourists. The workers make clothing, leather goods, rugs, pottery, cooper, embroidered articles and jewelry.
