Introduction The problem that we are researching is that students are getting dealt too much homework on a daily basis and it coincides with their extracurricular activities. What this leads to How we know
3
Research Questions 1. Are students given too much homework? 2. What is the average amount of time students spend on homework? 3. What is the average amount of time that students spend on jobs or sports or clubs? 4. What is the recommended amount of time that should be spent on homework per class? 5. How could teachers still get through the material without giving so much homework? 6. How do other countries handle this problem? Do kids have as many jobs in other countries? Do kids play sports?

Research According to “Academic Performance Top Cause of Teen Stress,” “Among 13-17 year olds, school is by far the most commonly mentioned source. Among 18-24 year olds, it’s jobs and financial matters. In all, fully 85 percent of young people said they felt stress at least sometimes” (Associated Press). Mrs. Elias gave us an interesting solution to excessive amounts of homework. o flipped classroom o no homework
5
Research Continued Kids who do more homework actually perform worse on standardized tests, according to research by Sydney University educational psychologist Richard Walker (Corey Binns).perform worse on standardized tests
6
Survey 28.5% of high school seniors have jobs and participate in sports. Of this 28.5%, the mean stress level was 7.58 out of 10 and no student who played sports reported having a stress level lower than 6 out of 10 (10 being the highest) Once sports were added to the mix (for seniors), the mean stress levels increased significantly to 6.61 With all three grades, when homework was related to stress levels, the more homework that students had, the stress levels generally increased.

Solution Through our research and our interview with Mrs. Elias, we came up with two solutions One solution is to flip classrooms and some lessons The second solution is to recommend that teachers cut down on lengthy assignments
10
In conclusion In conclusion, we found that there is a direct relationship between the amount of homework and stress levels. In addition we also found that stress levels are highest with people who have extracurriculars and 4+ hours of homework. There are are solutions, one would be to flip classrooms and the other is to recommend teachers to give out less lengthy
