10 Iqbal Masih was a young Pakistani boy who was sold as a child slave to a carpet factory at the age of four. At the age of 10, he escaped the brutal slavery and later tried to help stop child labour around the world. Iqbal helped over 3,000 Pakistani children that were used as slave labour escape to freedom and gave talks about child labour all around the world.

11 He was murdered on Easter Sunday 1995 in the middle of a busy road. It is assumed by many that he was assassinated by members of the "Carpet Mafia" because of the publicity he brought towards the child labour industry. This is why the school in Rome chose its name and it is also twinned with a school in Pakistan.
