Crimes and Sentences Plaxico, although he did grow up in a bad part of the neighborhood, lived a relatively crime free life with some minor drug-related instances that cannot be confirmed. He was never in trouble with the law until the most recent crime listed below. Crime: Violating New York gun laws by unlawfully possessing a firearm in public. Plaxico did not have a gun carriers permit making carrying this gun illegal. The gun was found out when it accidentally went off in his pocket as he shot himself. Sentence: Two years in prison

EVIDENCE Gun found on him without permit He shot himself with it causing a wound that could be tracked to gun Several eye witnesses caught him with unlawful gun on him

Quotes Not a quote but, he wished to see his wife and kids to say one last goodbye before sentencing. “I can't do anything but go forward. I learned from every aspect last year, from being hurt and losing my position, to hearing it from the fans and the media and getting criticized. I survived it.” “She drove a public school bus for 13, 14 years, every day, then would come home and cook, and she wouldn't eat because there wasn't enough food for all of us,”- Plaxico on his mom and his childhood

Social Control Theory and Slightly Anomie Theory People care about what others think about them Plaxico had a good family and a positive life even though coming from a bad background. Plaxico should have been kept from committing this crime even though it was not a very severe crime. Plaxico should have known what was expected of him being in the NFL and should not have illegally carried a gun into that bar. Plaxico’s emotional attachment to his family, which was shown at his sentencing, should have been able to keep him from committing the crime. Plaxico was also slightly under the affect of the anomie theory. Plaxico grew up in a rough area. He grew up without a dad and with a hardworking mom with little income. Plaxico had to overcome this obstacle and he did it with football. Football was Plaxicos key to escape this way of life. Doing it such way was a conformity of the anomie theery.
