PEER COACHING

Two or more colleagues in a similar job voluntarily using a structured process to collaborate to produce a specific instructional outcome.

Was an outcome of the Bargaining Process during school year 2012-2013. The Peer Coaching Study Group was made up of teachers, instructional coaches, and an administrator. Most D-11 coaching programs were represented. The group studied a total of 14 coaching programs to determine a structure that could provide effective coaching support for all district teachers.

Peer Coaching Options Teachers choose a goal to work on with a peer Choose a colleague to observe (principal input recommended) Work through D-11 Instructional "Hot Topics" modules with a peer Teachers receive credit/financial compensation/sub days to support collaborative work with a peer outside of contract hours. (Teachers could choose to address PLC or SLO topics)

Atomic Learning will be the online platform. A S.M.A.R.T. Goal Graphic Organizer called the Goal Process Form and a Reflection Form will be required assignments to upload for all modules (one exception-Collegial Observation module has a different form) Teachers will sign up in ERO to participate in Peer Coaching and choose either D-11 increment credit or pay

BUDGET LIMITATIONS: Approximately 100 Teachers 0.5 credit hours maximum for pay 1.0 credit hours maximum for D-11 Increment If we have a good response, we can request more funding for next year

ONE TWO HOUR TRAINING IS REQUIRED TO UNDERSTAND THE PROCESS Launch Date: Thursday, January 28 th from 4:15-6:15 p.m. at Tesla in the Auditorium Two other dates (same time and place): Thursday, February 25 th Thursday, March 31 st

How could TLC’s use these services? 1) When you see that a successful and motivated teacher needs a challenge (National Board) 2) If you’d like a teacher to be able to have time to observe and talk with another teacher who does something exceptionally well (Peer Coaching Collegial Observation Module) 3) If you know a couple of teachers working on similar goals that could benefit from a structured process that allows for extra paid time or credit hours to work on a collaborative goal (Peer Coaching Modules) 4) If you’d like some coaching back-up or someone to talk to (Instructional Coaching)
