The Holy Spirit In Salvation The subject of the Holy Spirit often neglected by many today and misunderstood by many. We will look at simple passages about the Holy Spirit as He relates to salvation and consider this Bible subject as we do any. Too many myths believed about the Holy Spirit by too many and many Christians do not know how to discuss this subject with friends.

The Holy Spirit Is A Person of Divinity He is equal to the Father and the Son- the Trinity. He has characteristics and Personality Matt. 28:18-20- Authority equal to Father and Son- Baptism in the name of three beings. Acts 5:3- He can be lied to Acts 5:4- He is called God Acts 5:9- He can be tested or tried

Characteristics of Personality of the Holy Spirit He speaks- 1 Tim. 4:1; Acts 8:29; Gal. 4:6; Jn. 16:13 He testifies- Jn. 15:26; Rom. 8:26 He teaches- Jn. 14:26 He guides- Jn. 16:12-13 He hears- Jn. 16:13 He has a mind- Rom. 8:27 He can be grieved- Eph. 4:30 He can be lied to- Acts 5:3

The Holy Spirit- Divine Attributes He is eternal- Heb. 9:14 He is Omniscient (all-knowing)- 1Cor. 2:10-11 He is Omnipotent (all-powerful)- Micah 3:8 He is Omnipresent (always present)-Ps. 139:7-10 Personal pronouns are used to refer to Him- Jn. 16:7-15 The Holy Spirit is one of the three persons of the Godhead

The Godhead Scriptural Teaching- Acts 17:29 Rom. 1:20 Col. 2:9 The Godhead is defined as “that which is Divine”- Youngs, Pg. 423 Thayer says, “divine, divinity, deity (pg. 285)- “the fundamental meaning of “Godhead” is the state, dignity, condition, quality of God. As manhood is that which makes a man a man, and childhood that which makes a child a child, so Godhead is that which makes God, God. When we describe Godhead to a being, we affirm that all that enters into the idea of God belongs to him”- ISBE, Vol. 2, Pg. 1263

Three Divine Persons in the Godhead Mt. 28:18-20; Jn. 3:34; 14:26- God, Christ and the Holy Spirit They are not the same person- just as a husband and wife are not the same person even though they are one (Mt. 19:5). The Father is Deity- Jn. 20:17 Christ the Son is Deity- Jn. 8:16 The Holy Spirit is Deity-1 Cor. 2:10 Baptism of Jesus (Mt. 3:16ff)- Father from heaven speaks- Spirit descends like a dove-on the Son who is in the flesh.

Holy Spirit Is A Person Of Divinity Heb. 10:29- The Holy Spirit can be insulted Eph. 4:30- The Holy Spirit can be grieved Acts 7:31-52- We can resist the Holy Spirit Mk. 3:28-29- We can blaspheme the Holy Spirit HE IS A PERSON EQUAL WITH DEITY Called God Three persons together at baptism of Jesus Bible presents God in three persons. Belief in three divine person- not three Gods- See Eph. 4:4-6

The Role of The Holy Spirit The Revealer of God’s Word- Revelator The Old Testament He Revealed God’s Word 2 Sam. 23:1-4- He revealed His words to David These are the final words of David- vs. 1 “The Spirit of the Lord spoke by me and His word was on my tongue.” The Holy Spirit of God guided David in his speech Isaiah- 59:21- God revealed His word to Isaiah- “as for me says the Lord, this is my covenant with them, My Spirit who is upon you and My words which I put in your mouth.”
