1 the Hydrosphere Objective: 8.E.1.1
Explain the structure of the hydrosphere including: Water distribution on earth Local River basins and water availability

2 Water Distribution Ocean Freshwater
The same amount of water has always been on Earth weather it was a million years ago or today. Freshwater Most of the fresh water on Earth is frozen found in the polar ice caps. The most abundant source of fresh water on Earth is rivers. This includes NC Most of the Earth’s available freshwater is found underground. 3% of water found on Earth is fresh water Ocean Approximately 74% of Earth is covered in ocean water. 97% of the water found on Earth is saltwater

3 Why do LIving things need water?
All living things need water in order to carry out their body processes One body process that needs water is photosynthesis Plants use photosynthesis to create their food. Therefore, Animals and other living things depend on food made by plants. Many living things use water for shelter.

4 Distribution of water About 97%, is salt water (oceans)
Only 3% is fresh water The huge expanses of ice near the North and South Poles account for about 75% of the 3% of fresh water. Ocean-cover nearly 71% of Earthʼs surface The fresh water that is available for humans to use includes the water in lakes and rivers Far more fresh water is located underground Groundwater is water that fills the cracks and spaces in underground soil and rock layers.
