2 What is Black death ? Black death is a deadly disease and it was very painful and dangerous. It was transmitted from animals to humans. It usually starts with a flea bite. Once a human is infected, it is easy for that person to infect other people. Some signs are fever, chills, weakness, bleeding under the skin and low blood pressure.

3 When did it happen? The Black death started in China, in the year 1328 and lasted until the year 1351. The black death spreaded across the whole world from village to village.

4 Where did it Happen? The Black Death started in china and then moved to a city called Siclly near Italy. Later, it went to Europe and after that it went to Asia. It killed about 200 million people in Europe. The population in china was 125 million but in 50 years it decreased into 90 million.

5 How did it start? The black death also killed several farm animals like sheep, chickens and cows. It started in China and then spreaded around the whole world from country to country and from village to village. 60% of Europeans died from it.

6 How can Black Death be prevented ? Watch out for areas where black death usually occurs. Minimize sources of food or nesting places around homes. If you know you will be exposed to fleas, apply insect repellents. If you live in areas where black death occurs, treat dogs and cats for flea control.

7 Who discovered the cause of the Black Death ? In 1894 Black Death erupted in Hong Kong. The government asked two doctors to find the causes of this disease. They were Kitasato from Japan and Yersin from Switzerland.
