2 129,864,880 What does this number represent?? Researchers estimate that is the number of books there are in the world. With so many books, there really are books for everyone in the world with all different interests, ages, and experiences.

3 With so many books though, it can be like looking for a needle in a haystack to find the book you’ll like unless you have some strategies to help narrow down the books you’ll enjoy.

4 Book Selection Strategies Make a list of topics you’re interested in (hobbies, sports, animals, etc.) Make a list of places/times you’d like to visit or experience Make a list of books or authors you’ve enjoyed in the past Share your lists with friends and get their recommendations Review lists of recommended books such as the ALA Book Recommendations, or NPR’s 100 Best Teen NovelsALA Book RecommendationsNPR’s 100 Best Teen Novels Ask others like your teachers, family members, coaches etc. for their recommendations.

5 Next Steps Compile a list of topics, places, books or authors you’re interested in. If you have access to the internet go to https://livingston.follettdestiny.com, click on the high school link and search the catalog for books that match your list of interests. 6 What to turn in for Day 1 List of 10 topics you’re interested in (hobbies, sports, animals, etc.). List of 10 places/times you’d like to visit or experience.
