The top was shot to show pattern but it looks more like line at this scale. The middle one is the same subject shot for perspective but it has strong line characteristics. I moved in close to the subject for the texture shot at the bottom. The next slide will show the lab worked versions which will show more of the design characteristics that I was after…

So, to hold the viewer interest, a design shots must be superbly composed, lit by dynamic side lighting, and be done with superb technique. Adding design qualities to your usual shot will probably be an easier task. Enhance your story telling shots with strong design and composition.

I lab worked the image to bring up the image ‘Presence’. Big part of Presence is about increasing contrast. But just that move would not achieve the look&feel of the bottom image.
