Early Life Born on December 17, 1778 in Penzance, Cornwall, England His father died in 1794, Davy, in an effort to help support his family, became an apprentice to a surgeon-apothecary, J. Binghan Borlase

Contributions to Electronics Sir Davy was the first to discover that different materials attract electrons better than others. These were called batteries

Contributions to Electronics Again!!!!!!!!! Davy eventually discovered magnesium, calcium, strontium, and barium in 1808 Barium is used to make spark plugs, and is used for coating fluorescent light bulbs

Contributions to Electronics Some More!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Magnesium is used for combining metals and refine titanium Calcium is used for constructing cement and mortar. It is also used for detecting carbon dioxide

Contributions to Electronics for the Last Time Strontium is used in studies of neurotransmitter release in neurons and in glass for colour television cathode ray tubes to prevent X-ray emission
