A Call to Beat Political Corruption BY: JACQUES BENOIT

Introduction  Political corruption has plagues this nation even before its inception, but the amount of scandalous activities amongst our politicians has been at an all time high. Every day more and more politicians are being accused of accepting bribes, improperly using campaign finance money and many other things.  It is well past the time that the citizens of this country rise up and stomp out the poison that has wreaked havoc over the years.

Both Side of the Isle  The corruption in the United States political system is not just Democrat or Republican problem.  Both sides have been indicated in very disturbing sets of corruption for example  Rick Renzi (R- AZ) was convicted of fraud conspiracy extortion racketeering, money laundering and making false statements.  Jesse L. Jackson Jr. (D-IL) Was found guilty of using campaign finance money to buy personal items and was convicted of filling false tax statements.  These are just two examples of a very long list of corrupt public officials that we vote in to represent the people of the USA.

What Can be done?  The power of corruption is not easily defeated because it has taken such a strong hold in our branches of government.  What can we as the American people do to defeat this corruption?  What laws can we change to slow down the power of corruption?

Pick the right representation  President George Washington once said that political parties would lead to the ultimate demise of the federalist republic that was created.  People have a tendency to follow political parties without fully understanding who they are voting for. Being a Republican or Democrat is almost like a religion for most people and they simply cast their vote because it is was they were taught to do.  Choose who you want by voting for somebody who maintains your best interests. DO NOT pick somebody because they fall in line with the same party that you have been associated with.

Super Rich Representation?  There has been a lot of complaints about the top 1% of the rich in this country, but what people fail to realize is that we continue to elect the Top 1%.  How can somebody who is super rich or simply very well off properly represent the poor or middle class of this country?

Best Interest at Heart  Do the top 1% of the country truly have our best interests at heart or are they simply playing the political game to their own advantage.  Example: Louis Learner – She has been under intense scrutiny of the right wing congress for her “bias” in the IRS and some comments she has been caught making have been pretty damning

Political Career  The words political career should not exist in this country.  The executive and legislative branch was set up so that any citizen of the USA can represent their specific part of the country for a limited period and than return home to their normal occupation.

TERM LIMITS TERM LIMITS TERM LIMITS!  We as the American people need to tell our representation that we want term limits enforced.  Congress and the senate work for the people not the other way around!  Proper representation for the poor and middle class.

Conclusion  The United States has every capability of being the greatest country in the world, but we are not there yet. To get a hold of this problem we need to reevaluate some of our representation in this country. We need to have those who are representing us be on the same level the middle class and poor of this country are.
