Goals: Students will 1. Become familiar with the instructor’s expectations. 2. Understanding the grading system and policies. 3. Get to know each other. 4. Get comfortable with the class structure.

 No cell phone zone – any phones will be taken and given to Mr. Tustin with a DR.  No I-pod/ear buds/headset zone – any such items will be taken and given to Mr. Tustin with a DR.  ALL tardies will be counted unless excused.  ALL homework assignments will be typed, Times New Roman, 12 pt., double spaced. (MLA format)  Exams will be a combination of subjective and objective formats.  Students are expected to take notes for the purpose of studying for exams/quizzes.  All students are expected to participate in classroom discussions.  There is no individual extra credit.  Come to class prepared to write, do bell ringers, and actively participate.

 Grade Weights ◦ Tests/quizzes40% ◦ EOC10% ◦ Projects25% ◦ Homework 25% ◦ Starting in the next few days as soon as we have a little foundation, you will be expected to come into class, open your notebooks/computers and begin to work on your bell ringers. They will be collected twice a semester (at the end of each quarter) and graded as a project grade. They must be typed with the day, date, and question proceeding the answer. Each bell ringer should be in proper grammatical form and seldom should be less that one half page (not counting day, date, and question). I expect analysis, examples, and your own opinion to show in your answers.

 Alphabetical Order from Z to A. ◦ You are expected to be here in the proper seat sitting quietly WHEN the tardy bell rings – not walking in the door unless you have a note excusing the late arrival. ◦ Move to new seats as instructed.

 It is my goal to make this an enjoyable class for you and earn your respect.  It is your goal to do the following: ◦ Don’t disrupt class ◦ Learn the names of your classmates ◦ Do your best work because it makes YOU proud ◦ Turn all assignments in on time ◦ Check Mrs. Looney’s website for missed work (this is up to you to get the work in no more than two days after you return from a missed class)

 Turn to the person on your left and get to know them well enough to introduce them to the class. Find out fun facts about them that will make them stand out so others in the class will remember them. ◦ You each have two minutes to learn everything fun you can. ◦ Then you will introduce each other to everyone else in class.

 Starting a New Planet
