Cell Organelles

 Section 1 – Microscopes  Section 2 – Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic cells Cell membrane  Section 3 – Cell Organelles

Vacuole

 Regulates what comes into/leaves the cell  Barrier to the outside of the cell  Semi-permeable  Allows small molecules in/out easily

 Has a membrane around it  Contains cell’s genetic material (DNA)  Controls cell’s activities  “Brian” of the cell

 Center most part of the nucleus  Contains RNA  Makes ribosomes

 Fluid part of the cell  Fills the inside of the cell  The “jelly” that holds all of the cell’s organelles

 Small spherical structures  Function: making proteins  Mostly found on the endoplasmic reticulum, but some can be free floating

 Long flattened, pancake like  Function: packaging proteins made by ribosomes  Making lipids

 “Rough” ER because surface is peppered with ribosomes  Lots of proteins are made here

 Long flattened structure  Proteins are concentrated and repackaged here  Packages proteins in new vesicles  “Post office” of cell

Protein Pathway Nucleolus Makes the ribosomes Ribosomes travel to the rough ER Rough ER peppered with ribosomes Ribosomes make the proteins Proteins travel to smooth ER Smooth ER Packages the proteins Golgi Apparatus concentrates and repackages proteins into vesicles Vesicles fuse with cell membrane and are released from the cell

 Organelles with outer membrane and inner folded membrane  ATP is made on folded membrane  “Power house” of cell  Muscle cells

 Membrane lined containers  Hold water and waste  Small is animal cells, large in plant cells Vacuole

 Spherical structures  Lots of powerful digestive enzymes  Break down old broken organelles  Removes waste  White blood cells http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LP7xAr2FDFU
