ABBY NORRIS JULY 12, 2015 SAMR Model

Topic: The stars & our Solar System (Science 4 th grade) S4E1 Students will compare and contrast the physical attributes of stars, star patterns, and planets.

Substitution To learn new information about this topic, students will be shown a video on this topic and will display their notes in a word document and print. This is a different tool instead of the teacher teaching them new information and them writing the information down themselves. By using technology, this keeps the students attention. Notes are taken using a word document instead of pen and paper. A few good websites for educational videos include: Teachertube.com Nationalgeographic.com Watchknowlearn.org Youtube.com

Augmentation Students can now begin to research the solar system. Their job is to find an instructional website where they can explore the solar system. The website should have the planets with characteristics of each. A few are: Spaceplace.nasa.gov eyes.nasa.gov With these websites, they can play games & take a 3d journey into space.

Modification Students will create a project working in groups of two. This project will be made using technology instead of making your traditional poster board project. The project should include new information from their notes (word document), their chart of each planet with characteristics, and an educational video. It’s important that students create an easy to read, colorful and informational project. There are many different educational sites to display information. A few are: Glogster.com Prezi.com or Powerpoint on the computer

Redefinition It’s important that students share information with each other. Students often learn from better from listening and discussing with their peers than the teacher. Students will post their project online so that other teachers, students & administrators can view them and hopefully use them one day in their classrooms. Each group will present the projects in class.
