Seeing vs. Knowing We carry around with us mental images of the way things are suppose to look. We may think we see things exactly how they look, but until we learn how to see the details we will never truly be able to draw them true to life.

In this exercise you will copy an image while looking at it upside-down. The purpose is to stop looking at the image as a whole, and begin breaking it down into shapes and lines. This transition to real seeing will drastically improve your drawing skills. You may also use the grid system to help you break down the shapes and lines, and also to help you draw them in the right location on the page.

Exercise Instructions: 1. Turn your drawing upside down. 2. Place the plastic grid over it. 3. Draw on the yellow grid paper. 4. Match the lines in each grid as you draw. 5. Do not turn the papers right side up until you are finished.
