Have pencils sharpened and be ready to write at the bell. Backpacks/purses with cell phones/earbuds inside on floor, hoods off and caps off. You must be wearing ID badge for participation point. 4 Gandhi’s Nonviolence Tactics Mohandas K. Gandhi Born on October 2, 1869, at Porbandar, in the present-day Indian state of Gujarat. Died Jan. 30, 1948, at the hand of an assassin’s bullet in Delhi, on the way to a prayer meeting. Revered the world over for his nonviolent philosophy of passive resistance. Called Mahatma, or Great Soul

5 Mohandas (Mahatma) K. Gandhi His father was the chief minister of Porbandar. His deeply religious mother was a devoted practitioner of Vaishnavism (worship of the Hindu god Vishnu). Influenced by Jainism, an ascetic religion governed by tenets of self- discipline and nonviolence. At 19, went to London to study law First experience with racism was in 1893 on a train in South Africa.
