Cooperative Learning Strategies

What is Cooperative Learning? A teaching strategy designed to promote learning among a group of students and to meet individual learning styles.

Think-Pair-Share Students are given a problem individually. Students determine an answer and pair up with another student to discuss it, then they share their answer with the class.

Match Mine In pairs, students give directions to each other in order to match game boards. Divide into pairs using folded lines

Pass a problem/ Rally Table In teams of 4, students are given a problem to answer. Each student may only do one part of the problem, then must pass it to the next person in the group…this continues until the problem has a final answer.

Fan-n-Pick Card game where questions are written on cards and answered by the team. Roles: fan cards, picks and reads, answers, tutors/praises

Mix-pair-share Students form pairs when the teacher says to. Once pairs are form, a question is given. Students discuss the answer, then move to another pair.

Decision Time The class moves to the front of the room, where a line has been drawn on the floor. The teacher poses questions and then the student must move to one side of the line or the other.

Inside Outside Circle Students form 2 circles each facing the other. Students ask questions to the partner they are facing. The outside circle then moves one student to the right, and begins again.
