2. Description
Vitiligo is a type of skin disease that causes melanin in blotches.
It can affect the skin on any part of a persons body which can include: The inside of the mouth or even a persons eyes.
Vitiligo happens when melanocytes die or stop working.
It can affect all skin types but it is usually more visible on a person with a darker complexion.

3. Causes
Causes for this disease can be hereditary. Other causes can be from exposure to different chemicals, sunburn, or even stress. Certain disorders in the immune system can also cause the destruction of melanocytes.

4. Symptoms /Signs Skin discoloration
Early whitening or lightening of skin, hair, or eyelashes (mostly before age 35)
Change of color in the inner layer of the eyeball (which is known as the retina)
Discolored blotches around or near the armpits, naval, etc.

5. Prevention Protection of skin from the sun (using sunscreen)
Staying away from tanning beds
Seeking shade
Wearing clothing that protects from sun exposure.

Medications (creams, vitamin D, laser or light therapy, etc.)
Surgeries like skin grafting, blister grafting, or micropigmentation are also ways to treat vitiligo as well.
