How did you get here? I want you to think of five different modes of transportation you have taken in the past month. If you can’t think of five ways you move then tell me the way you got home yesterday through how you got here today Transport: take or carry (people or goods) from one place to another by means of a vehicle, aircraft, or ship.

We will look at the four modes of transportation found in Georgia Find a way to compare the modes and see how they click to economy Connect ideas of the modes to the project we are working on

Georgia’s Deepwater Ports
Found in the southeastern portion of the state Ports like Savannah and Brunswick are natural connections to trade Shipping is a means by which a huge percentage of importing and exporting occurs

GA Deepwater ports impact
The Brunswick port was used in WWII but now is important for many automotive companies (Jag, Porsche, Ford, and GM) Savannah port is where the original settlers of GA traded (Mary M.) Sav. is the fastest growing port in US

Railroads in Georgia Originally started in GA around the 1830’s
It originally created some link cities like Athens, Atlanta, Augusta, and Savannah Had more railways than any state in the south

Impact of Railroads in GA
Over 5000 miles of Railroad track Very important for the economy of Georgia to move major shipments Railroads dominated transportation for 130 years until the interstate system developed

Highway system In the 1930’s the US wanted to create a system of roads that could connect the major cities in the country 1950’s Eisenhower put it into motion I-95 like others connected GA to Miami and New York

Highway system Impact Has over 1200 miles of Interstate highways
This allowed for urban sprawl to happen This allowed for people to live in the outskirts of the city and travel into it Suburbs are now getting their own suburbs

Hartsfield-Jackson Intl Airport
Named after William Hartsfield and Maynard Jackson, both former mayors of Atlanta Connects Georgia to the rest of the nation and the world Flights travel to five continents daily

H-J Intl Airport Impact
Is known as the busiest airport in the nation since 1998 Great for the economy of the Georgia in terms of trade Constantly growing and evolving Has some negative repercussions also

What inspires you? When you think of the reason you do anything, what are three of your largest motivating factors? Why would you say one of those factors motivates you so much? Are you constantly inspired by that?

We will breakdown the difference between Nonfiction and Historical fiction We will work on our creative writing and expository writing and share it

Venning it . . . I want you to create a Venn diagram that compares the Nonfiction and Historical fiction I want you to come up with at least five things in each section We will talk about it to come up with an understanding of each

Nonfiction Choices I want you to select one of these two choices
I want you to write about how does climate affect life in Georgia. You can talk about crops that grow there, what people do, or how people live (pages 22-27) I want you to write about how each of the four modes of transportation affect the economy of Georgia in different ways (refer to the notes)

Historical Fiction Choices
I want you to select one of these two choices You are the first people to land in Georgia. Describe as a journal entry where you would settle and why. Talk about interactions with Natives, animals, and features You are a billionaire who decided to invest in transportation in Georgia. Describe your rise to power in the 1700’s (shipping), 1800’s (trains), 1900’s (cars), or 2000’s (plane)
