Interpret words and phrases as they are used in a text, including determining technical, connotative, and figurative meanings, and analyze how specific word choices shape meaning or tone. Analyze the structure of texts, including how specific sentences, paragraphs, and larger portions of the text (e.g., a section, chapter, scene, or stanza) relate to each other and the whole 3. 4 1. What do you notice about the PSAs in general? 1. Are short (usually 60 seconds or less) 2. Present one single issue 3. Inform the viewer of key, relevant facts 4. Have a clear call to action (usually indicated through text on screen) 5. Aim to leave a lasting impact 6. Might include: a. people b. music c. voice-overs d. special effects (like black and white) e. transitions/editing to enhance the video

5 2. Where are examples of persuasion? 1. Powerful images – video, photographs, artwork 2. Expressions on people’s faces 3. Use of color vs. black and white 4. Use of celebrities 5. Use of regular people 6. Clear calls to action
