5-4 Notes: TRANSCRIPTION (DNA  RNA)

RNA Video

Transcription Definition: Genetic information found in a specific gene (DNA) is rewritten in the form of RNA. Location: nucleus Enzymes Involved: RNA Polymerase

Step 1 1. RNA Polymerase binds to the promoter of the gene to start the process

Step 2 2. RNA Polymerase adds complimentary RNA nucleotides to the exposed DNA template

Step 3 3. RNA Polymerase reaches the terminal (stop) signal that marks the end of the gene and stops transcription

Transcription Video

ALL RNA is made this way Transcribe this piece of DNA into RNA (DNA) A – A – G – T – C –C (RNA) ________________

Transcription vs. Replication Make this chart and fill it in
Type of Enzymes Used Location Nucleotides (bases) used Molecule made
