What makes Khan Academy Different from other Instructional Websites Widest Variety of Instructional Videos. Over 2600 Videos. Videos are “Digestible” ~10 to 20 Minutes. Not Presented like a Text Book or Lecture, Rather in a Non-traditional Format Based on How He Understands the Concepts. Does not Follow Curriculum, Rather Concepts Covered on National Exams. Effective Because They Use Data Collected to Keep Video Watchers Interested and to Track Progress.
3
How Did Khan Academy Begin Sal ~ Founder & Executive Director. Holds three Degrees from MIT and an MBA from Harvard. Began tutoring his cousins over the phone and then making YouTube videos for them in 2004. Others began using the videos. He added JavaScript problem generators that provided endless practice problems and a database to track usage.
4
And Then… Sal quit his day job in September of 2010 to work exclusively with these videos. In May of 2010, generous donations made it possible for him to have a salary. Donations were also received from the Gates Foundation and Google’s Project 10 to the 100. Recognized as a Non-Profit. Nineteen people are on the Khan Academy Team.
