The resistance of a liquid to flowing. Because liquids differ in viscosity, some liquids flow more easily than others.

Some liquids with HIGH viscosity are: honey, maple syrup, hand lotion, shampoo, and liquid dish detergent Some liquids with LOW viscosity are: water, milk, juice, and tea

The properties of magma can vary. Not all types of magmas have the same viscosity. The viscosity of magma depends on its silica (oxygen and silicon) content and temperature. The silica content of magma ranges from about 50% to 70%. The more silica present, the higher the viscosity – the less silica magma contains, the lower its viscosity.

The higher the temperatures of magmas, the lower its viscosity and the more rapidly it will flow.
