1
3 fused bones of the ilium, ischium, and pubis, when paired up these form what is called the pelvic girdle. Sacroiliac joint is where the ilium interfaces with the sacrum. Acetabulum is where the femur from the upper leg articulates with the pelvis.
3
Greater trochanter front
4
Femur Tibia fibula
5
Example 5.5 F M is the magnitude of the resultant force exerted by the hip abductor muscles F J is the magnitude of the JRF applied by the pelvis on the femur. W 1 is the weight of the Leg W is the BW as a ground reaction force on the one leg
6
O is the axis of rotation of the hip joint. A is where the hip abductor muscles attach. B is the COG of the leg C is where ground reaction force is applied to the foot a,b,c are distances as shown, note that a is distance between A and O and gets resolved into ax and Ay Find the force exerted by the hip abductor muscles (gluteus medius and minimus) and the JRF to support the hip and the leg as shown
8
Alternative hip solution Concurrent forces with line of actions intersecting at Q Total BW – weight of the right leg Note that left leg is raised from the floor
9
Note that you get the same answers for F M and F J
14
x y a x = a cos , a y = a sin b x = b cos , b y = b sin c x = c cos , c y = c sin
16
Once again a concurrent system of forces
17
Carefully read and review all of Chapter 5
