What is personality The combination of all the attitudes, interests, values, behaviors and characteristics that make you who you are.

Personality includes: Self concept- the way you see yourself – your feelings about your own value and worth-changes all the time. -compliments from others= improve -fail at something= decreased self concept

Personality Includes These are a consistent, ongoing general self concept – you either like or dislike yourself- or something in between.

Personality Types: According to Dr. Holland, there are 6 personality types. Most of us fit one types more or less.

Personality Types Realistic- Like to work with objects, tools & machines they avoid social situations and educational activities. They value: Money, Power, Status Investigative-Like to examine physical, biological, and cultural situations so they can understand/control them. They avoid: Persuasive, social activities-usually develops strong math/science skills

Personality Types Artistic-Like to be involved in free, non-regulated activities so they can create new art forms and products. Avoid: rigid, unchanging systems and activities Develop skills in : language, art, music, drama & writing Social- Like to help, teach, train, curve and enlighten others Avoid: working with materials, tools and machines Skilled at getting along with others.

Personality Types Enterprising- Like to manipulate others to achieve their goals and make money. Avoid: Scientific and investigative activities Value: Political & economic achievement prefer to be leaders, not followers Conventional- Like to keep records, file materials, and organize information often with aid of business machines. Avoid: free, unregulated activities Value: business and economic achievement Skilled in: Clerical and Numerical abilities

Important Terms: A REVIEW Interests- Things that you enjoy doing the most Daydreaming- A technique to help identify your strongest needs and wants Aptitude- The knack, or potential for learning certain skills.

Important Terms- A Review Data- Facts such as numbers, words and symbols Values-the ideas, relationships, and other things that are important to you. Ability- a skill that has already been developed.
