Puritanism Puritans are a group of protestant people in the 16 th and 17 th century. This religion is very strict and they believed in purifying the Catholic aspects of the Church of England. They believed the Church of England was evil and that is why they wanted to purify it.

Are you a witch? Strange happenings began occuring in Salem. Some children would get into arguments with the wives, and suddenly they would start to be sick or some other weird misfortune would happen. If this was the case, you would be accused of being a witch and would be put on trial. If anyone suspected you were performing witch craft, you’d be put on trial.

Punishment If you were accused of being a witch, and then lied to the court, you would be sentenced to be hanged. In Giles Corey’s case, he was pressed to death with stones. However, the main form of punishment was hanging.
