Dialogue in action! Volunteers needed! Read aloud the following line, and use your face to show how the character might be feeling... 1. "Shhh...what's that noise?" 2. "Don't tell me what to do! Viewing guide questions (pg. 112) 1. Why doesn't Mr. Poe understand the danger the children are in when he talks to Violet on the car phone? 2. How do the children pull the track switching lever so that the train misses the car? 3. What is the conflict in the scene, and how do the children first become aware of the danger they are in? 4. Think about the moment in the scene after Violet gets off the phone with the children and they can't get out of the car. Why do you think the author chose this moment to show a close up of Violet? 5. Listen carefully to the music and sound effects in the scene. What part of the scene is the most exciting? What sound elements make it exciting? 6. Which details of the setting make it exciting for you?
