Introduction  In the last meeting, the 802.16p group created a baseline SRD.  In the SRD, Device collaboration A technique where a certain device helps the other device’s transmission. Device collaboration for low power consumption in M2M devices The 802.16p system may support device collaboration without defining a new 16p peer-to-peer connection(i.e. all MS transmissions must be terminated at the BS).  In this contribution, we propose to define a device collaboration mode in 16p system for supporting device collaboration.  Related terminologies Source M2M device: The end M2M device whom the data traffic to the BS is generated from or the data traffic generated from the BS is targeting for Cooperative M2M device: The device who helps the source M2M device(s) in UL by relaying or co-transmitting data and control information

Proposed device collaboration scheme  Mobile relaying A cooperative M2M device performs the functionality of a RS(Relay Station). A cooperative M2M device forwards the data of a source M2M device to the BS. For example, the source M2M device send data traffic to the cooperative M2M device through D2D link first, and then the cooperative M2M device send it to the BS as shown in Fig. 1. Additionally, a concept of group anchor where an anchor device collects data traffic from multiple source M2M devices and forwards it to the BS, can be another example of mobile relaying. 4 DL/UL signal path for a source M2M device  DL: data & control signals directly received from the 802.16p BS  UL: data & control of a source device relayed by cooperative M2M device to the 802.16p BS. IEEE 802.16p BS IEEE 802.16p device (Cooperative device) IEEE 802.16p BS IEEE 802.16p device (Cooperative Node) IEEE 802.16p device (Source device) IEEE 802.16p device (Source device) Fig. 1. DL/UL signal path for a source device

Device capability for device collaboration  16m devices only supports, Send data & control in UL subframes Receive data & control in DL subframes  To support device collaboration in 16p system, 16p devices, especially the cooperative M2M devices shall support Send data & control in UL subframes Receive data & control in DL subframes And additionally listen to data control from source M2M device Send data & control of the source M2M device to the 16p BS

Definition of Device Collaboration mode  To support the capability of listening to the signal from the source M2M device at the cooperative M2M device We need to define a new device operation mode in 16p system. In this contribution, we define the Device Collaboration mode conceptually.  During the Device Collaboration mode operation The cooperative M2M device shall stop UL transmission during the interval when listening to the UL signal from the source M2M device. The halt interval in the cooperative M2M device may be configured based on the subframe level or radio frame level. The impact on the PHY and complexity needs to be considered to define the operation of the Device Collaboration mode.

Proposed text [Insert the following texts in 16p amendment document] 3. Definitions 3.x Source M2M device: The end device whom the data traffic to the BS is generated from or the data traffic generated from the BS is targeting for 3.x Cooperative M2M device: The device who helps the source M2M device(s) in UL by relaying or co-transmitting data and control information 16.2.29 MAC Support of M2M 16.2.29.x Device collaboration Device collaboration is a technique where a certain device helps the other device’s transmission. Especially, the device collaboration is supported for lower power consumption of a specific M2M source device by reducing the UL pathloss and relevant Tx power of the source M2M device. For supporting device collaboration, the cooperative M2M device shall stop UL transmission during the interval when listening to the UL signal from the source M2M device. 16.2.29.x.x Device collaboration mode The Device Collaboration mode is configured to support the cooperative M2M device receiving the UL data & control of the source M2M device and relaying them to the BS. Once the device collaboration is triggered, the Device Collaboration mode is configured to both of the source and cooperative M2M devices.
