General Information BBangladesh became a country in 1971 as a result of East Pakistan seceding from the union with West Pakistan. TThis country is very impoverished. AAlmost 33% of the country floods during each rainy season. TThis stop economic progress.

Location AAbsolute: 24° North Latitude, and 90 ° East Longitude. RRelative: Southern Asia. Between Myanmar and India. Borders on the Bay of Bengal.

Place AArea-Comparative: Bangladesh is just a little bit smaller than the state of Iowa. CClimate: Tropical. They have mild winters, and humid and scorching hot summers. They also experience the monsoon season.

TThe low point is the Indian Ocean. TThe high point is known as Keokradong. TTerrain: Mostly flat alluvial plain. Lots of hills in the Southeast region.

Human and Environmental Interaction AA lot of people do not own land and they have to live on land that floods often. TThe water supply is loaded with diseases that are water borne. TThe water is polluted.

Region TThere are discussions with India that have stalled. They have been debating a small section of river boundaries. TThey are trying to stop illegal border trade and violent acts. IIndia and Bangladesh are not good neighbors due to territorial disputes.
