Benjamin Franklin was the first chairman of the committee Other members included: Benjamin Harrison, Thomas Johnson, John Dickinson, and John Jay A descendant of the Committee of Corespondence

3 Responsible for oversight and legislation relating to: Foreign Assistance Peace Corps National Security developments pertaining to foreign affairs War powers Treaties Deployment of U.S. armed forces Arms control and disarmament issues

4 Howard L. Berman is the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee He grew up in Los Angeles and attended school at UCLA as well as their law school During his first term in state legislature, he was named Assembly-Majority leader and was the youngest to ever receive such an honor In 1982, Berman was elected to Congress and was then named to the Foreign Affairs and Judiciary Committees He has been working hard to strengthen U.S. relations with Israel and preventing the production of weapons of mass destruction
