What is College Credit Plus (CCP)? CCP is a program that gives student an opportunity to be enrolled in both high school and college coursework at the same time. College Credit Plus replaces Post-Secondary Enrollment Options program (PSEO) and dual enrollment.

Who Is Eligible For CCP? Any student in grades 7-12 is eligible to participate. Students must be academically ready for college level coursework and willing to adhere to both the demands of college and high school simultaneously.

Which Universities Can I Attend? Per Ohio House Bill 487, all public secondary schools and all public colleges must provide an opportunity for academically eligible students in grades 7-12 to participate. Lancaster High School has partnered with Ohio University Lancaster and Hocking College to offer classes at Lancaster High School. You may take classes on any college/university campus if you are accepted into that college/university.

In Which Classes Can I Earn College Credits At LHS? Credits earned through OU-L Astronomy (ASTR 1000) 3 hrs Pre-Calculus (Math 1300) 3 hrs Pre-Calculus Honors (Math 1300) 3 hrs Spanish IV Honors (SPAN 2120) 3 hrs French IV Honors (FR 1110) 3 hrs

Will The CCP Classes Be On My Transcript? At the start of the school year, your schedule and transcript will show the high school name of the class. Once we have determined who is taking the class through CCP, the course title will be changed to show the college class that you are taking. For example, Pre-Calculus will show at the start of the year, but will change to MATH 1300 on both your schedule and transcript.

Will My GPA Be Affected? Yes, CCP courses, both those taken at the university and those taken at the high school, are included in your GPA at both the university and the high school. If LHS offers an honors or AP class, then the equivalent CCP class will use the weighted grade. For example, LHS offers AP English 12. This means that all CCP courses equivalent to English 12 courses will be weighted on the AP/Honors Scale (English 12 CCP, OUL’s ENG 1510 and higher)

What Are My Academic And Social Responsibilities? Expected to follow the rules and regulations set by the college/university, including adherence to their grading policies. Once enrolled, you are eligible to receive advising from campus-based support services of that institution. Expected to follow the rules and regulations set for high school students detailed in the student handbook. Continued access to your school counselor and all other resources available to high school students. Participation in CCP does not guarantee your admission to college after high school. You should follow the regular undergraduate application process for whatever college you plan to attend after high school.

Athletic Eligibility If you are a student athlete, you much remain eligible in accordance with the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OSHAA) bylaws. To be athletically eligible, students must be passing five, one credit courses or the equivalent per grading period with the high school and college courses combined. Be sure to check with your school counselor to ensure that the course work you are taking is compliant with OHSAA 5 semester credits = 1.0 high school credit 4 semester credits = 1.0 high school credit 3 semester credits = 1.0 high school credit 2 semester credits = 0.67 high school credit 1 semester credit = 0.33 high school credit

What Are The Benefits Of CCP? Allows students to earn simultaneous high school and transcripted college credits. Accelerates a student’s college career and provides quality, affordable education close to home. Provides students with a wider range of class options and allows them to complete general education college requirements. These are transferable according to Transfer Assurance Guide (TAG) and Ohio Transfer Module (OTM) guidelines. Lowers the overall cost of post-secondary education. Shortens the time to complete a college degree and allows increased flexibility in student scheduling. Introduces the rigor and expectations of college work—helps students achieve college readiness. Eliminates repetitive, overlapping coursework between high school and college.

What Are Some Possible Concerns? Transportation Student/parent or guardian is responsible Calendar Vacation days at LHS and CCP school may not coincide Attendance is the student’s responsibility Fees Financial Obligations become the parent/student responsibility Late withdrawal from the class Student does not receive passing grade Grades received through CCP are reflected twice—on high school and college transcripts. On both transcripts grades will affect respective GPAs. Low grades may also negatively impact potential college admissions and financial aid opportunities.

Possible Concerns, Cont. Not guaranteed to transfer as an equivalent class. Although TAG/OTM courses are guaranteed transfer to Ohio Public Institutions of Higher Education with a grade of D or better, how they transfer may differ depending on the major. Students should check with institutions of interest regarding transfer prior to CCP enrollment. May not transfer to private or out of state colleges/universities. College transfer credits earned through CCP are generally accepted by most major institutions. However, credits are not always guaranteed for transfer toward private or out-of-state institutions. Students should check with institutions of interest regarding transfer prior to CCP enrollment.

Possible Concerns, Cont. Qualifying for Graduation A failure to successfully complete a CCP course may result in delay of graduation High School Extra-Curricular Activities Schedules may not align to allow participation in all activities Social Aspect High School students will face new challenges emotionally and socially Parental Access and FERPA-CCP Students are treated as adults and own their education records once they set foot on a college campus No access to ProgressBook

Pathways Lancaster City Schools has partnered with Hocking College and Ohio University Lancaster to offer classes at Lancaster High School. The following classes are being offered during the 2015-2016 academic year: * The availability of these courses is dependent upon enrollment and the availability of staff. 15 Pathways Continued Lancaster High School has developed options for completing 15 credit hour and 30 credit hour pathways during high school. These pathways can be created based upon a student’s interest in completing general education courses often required at the undergraduate level from courses offered at Lancaster High School. For example, students can take general education courses (Introduction to Sociology, English Composition I, English Composition II, etc.) at their discretion throughout high school to earn college credit hours upon graduation. Additional resources are available with examples of specific pathways that have been created by local universities. It is advisable to research specific information about a college/university using the college’s website. Credits earned through College Credit Plus are transferable to many public and private institutions in Ohio and out of the state. Students who want to transfer to another university will need to send their transcript from the Institute of Higher Learning (IHL) to the university they plan to attend. Many of these courses apply toward the general education requirements or as electives at that college. Two websites are available to help students fully understand what courses will transfer: www.transfer.org or www.ohiomeanssuccess.gov

What Do I Do Now? If you are taking classes on the college/university campus, you should be enrolled in your classes at this point. Be sure to meet with your high school counselor to be sure you have the graduation requirements needed. For all year long CCP classes, the CCP applications to OU-L and Hocking College will be due by November 1, 2015. These classes require a placement test offered by OUL or Hocking College to determine eligibility. ACT scores may also be used. Placement tests will be taken during fall semester. Sign the CCP contract within the first 2 weeks of the semester.
