14 TH AMENDMENT A protection under the US Constitution. It gives all US citizens the right to have the same protections through the law. 14 th Amendment= Equal Protection under law

CITIZEN a native or naturalized member of a state or nation who is loyal to a government and is entitled to its protection

CITIZENSHIP the character of an individual viewed as a memberof society; behavior in te rms of the duties,obligations, and fun ctions of a citizen

LEGAL permitted by law; lawful :

IMMIGRANT a person who migrates to another country, usually for permanent residence.

REFUGEE a person who flees for refuge or safety, especially to a foreign country, as in time of p olitical problems, war, etc.

NATURALIZATION is the process by which U.S.citizenship is granted to a foreign citizen or national after he or she fulfills the requirements established by Congress

NATURALIZED CITIZEN is the process by which U.S.citizenship is granted to a foreign citizen or national after he or she fulfills the requirements established by Congress

CIVICS the study of the rights and duties of citizenship.

OBLIGATION Something that you MUST DO! This term is another word for DUTY.

DUTY something that one is expected or required to do by moral or legal obligation.

JURY a body of people (typically twelve in number) sworn to give a verdict in a legal case on the basis of evidence submitted to them in court.

RESPONSIBILITY Something we really should do, but there aren’t legal consequences for not doing them

RESIDENT a person who lives somewhere permanently or on a long-term basis.

LAW OF BLOOD a principle of nationality law by which citizenship is not determined by place of birth but by having one or both parents who are citizens of the state.

LAW OF SOIL 1. (Law) law the principle that a person's nationality at birth is determined by the territory within which he was born. Compare jus sanguinis [from Latin, literally: law of soil]

ALIEN A non-citizen living in a country

SELECTIVE SERVICE Men between the Ages of 18-25 register for a military data base. That in the case of a military draft they may be selected.

TOLERANCE Appreciating and respecting the differences in people.
