The Distance & Midpoint Formulas Section: 7-1 By Sean Gretz
2
Distance Formula We use the Distance Formula to find the distance between 2 points The X terms represent the X coordinates of the points we are trying to find the distance between The Y terms represent the Y coordinates of the points we are trying to find the distance between

Check out this sample http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=910e77Gy yCk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=910e77Gy yCk Warning! - Don’t pause just listen. This is an example of how to use the distance formula
4
Try this problem and check your work Find the distance between the points (-5,7) and (9,-11).
5
Midpoint Formula We use the midpoint formula to find the midpoint of a line segment The X terms side gives us the X coordinate of the midpoint The Y terms side gives us the Y coordinate of the midpoint
6
Here’s another sample http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGayeDt Mhtc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGayeDt Mhtc This is an example of how to use the midpoint formula
7
Try this problem and check your work Find the midpoint of a line connecting points (-3,5) and (2,3) Set 1 ordered pair equal to the formula
