History/Social Studies 2 years required Two years of history/social science, including one year of World History, Cultures and Geography; and one year of U.S. History or ½ year of U.S. History and ½ year of Civics or American Government.

English 4 years required Four years of college- preparatory English.

Mathematics 3 years required 4 years recommended To include Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry

Laboratory Science 3 years required 4 years recommended For UC: Recommend 3 years with at least 2 years providing fundamental knowledge in 2 of the 3 core disciplines – Biology, Chemistry, Physics For CSU: Requires at least 1 year of Biological Science and 1 year of Physical Science.

Language Other than English 2 years required of the same language 3 years recommended For UC: A score of 520-569 on SAT II* = 2 years credit, a score of 570 or above on SAT II* = 3 years credit For CSU: A score of 460 on SAT II* satisfies requirement *Spanish Only – refer to UC/CSU Counselors’ Guides for other languages

Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) 1 year required Approved UC courses in Drawing/Painting, Ceramics, Music, or Theater

College Preparatory Electives 1 year required May use excess years of “A-F” Courses

Earn an appropriate score on the SAT Subject Tests, Earn a score of at least 3 on AP, or Earn a score of 5 on Higher Level examinations on IB Satisfying the “A-G” Subject by Examination
