TODAY’S OBJECTIVE Today, I will be able to select a genre and story seed for my genre project. I’ll know I’ve got it when I’ve chosen a topic that appeals to me and is appropriate for class.

YOUR NEXT PROJECT Any genre you choose! Topic must be school appropriate. You must incorporate all of the different writing tips/tricks.

WHAT GENRES CAN I CHOOSE? Fantasy – uses magic & other supernatural phenomena as the primary element of plot, theme, or setting. Many works take place in fictional worlds where magic is common. Science Fiction Realistic Fiction Historical Fiction

WHAT GENRES CAN I CHOOSE? Fantasy Science Fiction – Uses scientific concepts as primary the element of plot, theme, or setting. Many of these stories are set in the future with new innovations in science & technology. Realistic Fiction Historical Fiction

RUBRIC CriteriaPoints Earned by Student Total Points Possible Student created a piece of writing within a clear genre. The selection is complete with a beginning, middle, & end. 5 Student successfully incorporated clear use of Magic 3. 5 Student successfully incorporated clear use of repetition. 5 Student successfully incorporated clear use of visual effects. 5 Student successfully incorporated clear use of figurative language & sensory description. 10 Student carefully revised & edited his/her final draft & turned in a published draft free of errors in grammar, spelling, & mechanics. The final published piece reflects attention to detail. 10 Final Grade /40
