2 Bank on Your PC For years, online banking has been “the next big thing.” No more rushing out in the rain to transfer funds to cover a check you just wrote. No more wondering whether you forgot to pay the electric bill or just neglected to record it in your checkbook. No more Saturdays frittered away trying to figure out why your account balance doesn’t match your bank statement. 3 Online Banking: Growing Interest A recent survey from research firms Jupiter Communications and FIND/SVP determined that there’s strong interest among PC owners in electronic banking from home; 2.5 million U.S. households say they are very likely to begin using online banking in the next 12 months, and 4.7 million more households say they are somewhat likely to begin doing that in the next 12 months.

4 Online Banking Yet to Deliver! Yet, online banking has yet to reach mass appeal – and may never be more than a tool for niche groups, a new report on ebanking confirms. Despite the Internet’s underwhelming performance thus far, the majority of community banks, especially those with assets greater than $100 million, intend to launch sites, perceiving it as a defensive move.

5 Conclusion In conclusion, if the Internet has done anything, though, it has shaken banks out of their complacency, and it has demonstrated that some consumers are willing to hand over management of finances to other stewards. If banks are going to maintain their ties with these people, they will need to become more creative in the delivery of their services.
