Texture is how a surface feels or looks like it would feel. Some words to describe texture would be: rough smooth spiky bumpy flat undulating Can you think of any more? Look for texture in your classroom? Go on a ‘Texture Hunt’ around the class. How will you record these textures? Make a texture rubbing Thick wax crayon Cartridge paper Place the paper over the textured surface and rub with the side of the wax crayon. Make a class collection of your rubbings. What patterns can you see?

Glue tissue paper, string, wool, modroc onto card to create a variety of textured effects. Paint when dry. Spread interior filler thickly onto card. Make textured marks in the filler. Leave to dry.
